One of the huge benefits of balayage or ombre hair is how easy it is to maintain and upkeep. Today I wanted to show you what I do in between trips to the salon to retain a striking contrast between the low and highlights of my hair.
My hair has a tendency to fade to a medium-light brown when I spend a lot of time in the sun, so I like to darken my roots and mid lengths using Schwarzkopf Brilliance at home. It’s super affordable, simple and transforms my whole look in 30 minutes!
What you need to try this at home:
- Schwarzkopf Brilliance – Intense Permanent Colour in the shade that you’d like your roots/mid lengths. I used 30 – Romantic Brown.
- Towel for your shoulders
- Hair Clip
- Vaseline (HOT TIP: to avoid dying your ears and forehead, smudge some vaseline or paw paw ointment onto your skin, the dye won’t stick to it!!)
Step 1: Mix the contents of the Brilliance pack in the developer bottle.
Step 2: Part your hair and apply dye to the roots then gradually smudge the product out towards your mid lengths. Take care to avoid any highlights that you may have.
Step 3: Leave to develop for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Wash out, condition, and voila – you’re done!
How to find your perfect shade:
Schwarzkopf have a super fun Colour Match tool that quizzes you about your hair colour, skin tone, and even your preferred colours for clothing and jewellery so you can find out what the most flattering shades are for you. This is a really handy tool to help you find out whether you need warm or cool undertones in your hair.
Once you know your perfect colour match you can also check out the entire Schwarzkopf Brilliance selection in their Style Studio.
